Renowned scientist, Dr Vasanth Kumar Thimakapura, who contributed immensely to the field bio-technology, on Wednesday appealed farmers not to use pesticides.
His appeal came after his successful attempt to treat tobacco crop that was damaged in Arenahalli Village of Revandur Hobli in Periyapatna Taluk recently. The crop was damaged due to spraying of weedicide instead of pesticide by mistake. The team from Krishi Jnana Vijnana Vedike, headed by Timkapure, successfully treated the tobacco crop much to the relief of the farmers.
Addressing press persons here on Wednesday, Thimakapura said, “On June 20, Syed Babu Jaan, a farmer from Arenahalli, was upset that his tobacco crop was dying. When the news was published in newspapers and broadcast on TV, the concerned team from KJVV rushed to Syed’s aid. The team of experts treated tobacco free of cost. Not only did the crop recover, but it’s a matter of pride that the crop is now of better quality Syed is now an elated man,” said Thimakapura.
Dr Thimakapura requested all the farmers to approach his team of experts if there are any problems. “We have an accomplished team of experts, a fully functional laboratory for diagnosis of diseases and all these facilities are completely free for farmers.
