It is known to many people that the gold medals presented on many occasions, including the famous Olympic medals, do not contain much of real gold. These medals at the maximum have a few milligrams of gold coating. However, it is surprising to note that even the famous Mysore silk saris, much sought-after by women, contain very less quantity of real gold in its zari (lace). Now the secret is out! Every 100 gm pure zari contains only 650 milligrams of actual gold, 65 g of silver and the rest copper. The amount of zari varies from sari to sari, based on the width of the zari design on the sari. In spite of this, these saris are attracting the attention of the women due to its smooth texture and light weight of the saris.
