Senior Citizens’ Day observed in Mysuru

Mysuru, November 3:- As part of the ‘Senior Citizens’ Day on October 31, the Elder Citizens’ Council’s Saraswathi Samudaya Bhavana, Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru, was lulled with all praises to the senior members of the society.

Inaugurating the programme, Chamaraja Constituency MLA L Nagendra wanted people to respect the elder members of the family/society as they are the experienced and knowledgeable persons to be looked after. He even cited his mother’s advice to him when he was young. He also welcomed the senior citizens for any grievances to contact him either in person or over phone and he even promised he would visit them in case of their inability due to age.

Speaking on the occasion, Padma Sekhar, former vice-chancellor of Sanskrit University, Bangalore and University of Mysore, who was the chief guest, hailed the Elder Citizens Council for conducting the Senior Citizens’ Day and honour the seniors, to bring out the importance of the welfare of the seniors in the society.

She also expressed her condolences over the passing away of Kannada film superstar Puneeth Rajkumar and paid rich tributes to him for his friendly behaviour.

Two prominent writers including Amshi Prasanna Kumar, a journalist from ‘Kannada Prabha’ and Dr Naganna, Professor in English of University of Mysore, were felicitated in appreciation of their famous works in Kannada and English. They, in response, thanked the Elder Citizens’ Council for recognising their talent and honoured them.

A minute of silence was observed as a mark of respect for Puneeth Rajkumar and Vasudeva, a senior member of the Elder Citizens’ Council. President Krishnappa Gouda, Council president presided, secretary K V Ramanath and Made Gowda, member, introduced the guests. (MR)
