Sexual harassment case: HC directs govt, UoM to complete probe against Prof Mane in 6 weeks

Mysuru, January 9:- The Karnataka High Court has directed government and University of Mysore to complete the probe into the sexual harassment case on Prof Dayananda Mane of Public Administration Department of UoM and former in-charge Vice Chancellor of UoM, within six weeks.

Prof Mane had filed a petition challenging the allegation. Justice R Devadas has directed the state government and the University of Mysore to complete the investigation within six weeks. Advocate S Rupesh Kumar argued on behalf of petitioner Prof Mane. He requested the court to cancel the order issued by the UoM on September 3, 2018 in which Prof Mane is dismissed as the head of the Public Administration Department.

The court has directed that the investigation be completed soon. In an anonymous letter in 2016, Prof Mane was accused of sexual harassment on research students. Based on this, the University Complaint Committee investigated and submitted the report. The UoM Syndicate Committee had rejected the report due to lack of credible evidence. (KS, NGB)
