Shops burgled during lunar eclipse; head constable suspended

Mysuru, August 17:- A police head constable attached to Kuvempunagar Police Station in the city has been suspended in connection with the series of burglaries that took place on the occasion of century’s longest lunar eclipse recently.

Head Constable Ravikumar has been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty. He was deputed on night duty at the place where burglaries occurred on that night. The culprits have fled in a car after burgling several shops in the locality.

The head constable has reportedly not accepted the suspension order. The police department has sent a copy of the order by post and a copy has also been pasted on the door in front of his house. The residents have alleged that the thefts could have been avoided if the policeman on night beat was alert. (KS, NGB)
