Shubham Kumar tops civil services exam 2020: UPSC

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulates candidates who successfully cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination

Prime News, National, Civil Services, New Delhi, September 25:- Shubham Kumar has topped the prestigious civil services examination 2020, results of which were declared by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Friday (September 24).

Kumar is a B Tech graduate of batch 2014-2018 from the Civil Engineering Department of IIT Bombay. Kumar, 24, hails from Katihar, Bihar.

“My dream was to get into the IAS as it gives a wider platform to work for the betterment of the people. It has been realised and I would like to work for the underprivileged people, especially in rural areas,” says Kumar.

Jagrati Awasthi and Ankita Jain have got second and third ranks respectively.

A total of 761 candidates, 545 men and 216 women have cleared the examination. More than 10 lakh candidates had applied for this examination.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated candidates who successfully cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination. In a series of tweets Friday, Modi said an exciting and satisfying career in public service awaits. He said those who have cleared the exam will go on to have key administrative roles during an important period of our nation’s journey.

Modi said those young friends who did not clear the UPSC examination are also very talented individuals and there are more attempts awaiting. He said India is full of diverse opportunities waiting to be explored.

The civil services examination is conducted annually by the UPSC in three stages – preliminary, main and interview, to select officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others. (Inputs: Agencies, NGB)
