It was a day to remember for all those sportsmen who were felicitated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Mysuru on Friday. For their exemplary service in sports in Mysuru, 16 sportsmen were bestowed with Ekalavya awards, while two were honoured with life-time awards.
At a function organised at JK Grounds, Siddaramaiah distributed trophies and cash awards to all the achievers. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, “If there is one area where there is no caste, creed or religion, it is sports. It is sportsmen who play the role of ambassadors thereby helping countries to foster better ties. The government is anytime ready to strengthen the area of sports.”
Dhamini K Gowda, Vidya Pillai, Pavan Shetty, Nitin Thimmaiah, Rajguru N, Krishna A Naykodi, Arvind A, Arpitha M, Mohammed Rafique Holi, Meghana M Sajjanar, Drithi Thathachar Venugopal, Anup De Costa, J M Nischitha, Shavad J M, Umesh R Khade and Kanchan Munnolkar received Ekalavya wards. Karnataka Kreeda Ratna was awarded to D N Rudraswamy, Poornima V, Amogha U Chachadi, M P Pradeep K C, Sumitha U M, Dr Jeevandhar Ballal, Anand Irvathur, Anand L, Moshappa Virappa Gulabala, while lifetime awards were presented to John Christopher Nirmal Kumar and Shivanand R.
Ekalavya awardees were richer by Rs 2 lakh, while Kreeda Ratna and lifetime awardees were richer by Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh respectively.
District In-charge Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa, Youth Empowerment and Sports Minister Pramod Madhwaraj, MLAs Vasu, Somashekhar, Mayor B L Bhyrappa, MLC Govindraj and Deputy Commissioner D Randeep were present.
