Siddaramaiah says he is pro-farmer but mum on support price for sugarcane: Farmers’ unions

Mysuru, March 20:- State Farmers’ Association and Sugarcane Growers’ Association has alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who had promised support price for sugarcane has forgotten the issue completely. Is the government under the control of sugarcane factory owners? the protesters wondered.

“Siddaramaiah says that his government is pro-farmer. The Chief Minister doesn’t follow his own words. He has tried to scuttle the farmers’ protest during the inauguration of the new Deputy Commissioner’s office,” said state organising secretary of the association Athihalli Devaraj.

“There is no proper electricity for the pump sets and no support price either. But the state government advertises that it has waived off farmers’ loans. We will teach a lesson to Siddaramaiah who is treating farmers slightly,” he added.

State general secretary Basvanna said that the farmers’ union is supporting the protest led by Anna Hazare on March 23 in New Delhi and will hold symbolic protests at all district headquarters.

Babu, M V Nadi, N H Devakumar, district working president Bhagyaraj, Shivakumar and others were present. (MR/KMR).
