Jayanthi Iyengar, senior vice president and chief innovation and technology officer, Xylem, New York, US and alumna of the National Institute of Engineering, Mysuru, inaugurated the Society of Industrial & Production Engineers (SIPE) activities for the year 2016-17 at the National Institute of Engineering on last Thursday.
In her inaugural address, Jayanthi said that additive manufacturing, 3-D prints and intelligent manufacturing make a big difference in manufacturing and in next 10 years, we will see sea change in manufacturing. “Technology plays an important role in many aspects of manufacturing and we should change our mindset so as to adopt these new technologies.
“Though technology is advancing at a very high speed, we are not able to solve the issues like Cauvery water sharing or Mahadayi. Recycling is one of the ways where we can solve water crisis,” she said.
Dr G L Shekar, principal & CEO of NIE, presided over the function. Dr M S Shamprasad, Dr H N Divakar and Dr K M Subbaiah, professors, department of industrial and production engineering, were present on the occasion.
