Sir MV’s contributions remembered on his birth anniversary

Mysuru: As part of Engineers Day, Bharat Ratna Sir M V Visvesvaraya’s 161st birth anniversary was celebrated at Sir M V Visvesvaraya Circle near Sayyajirao Road here on Wednesday.

After garlanding the photo of Visvesvaraya, MCC Mayor Sunanda Palanetra said, “If the Mysuru city is known as the cultural city of India,  Visvesvaraya gave shape to the then king, Navaldi Krishnaraja Wodeyar’s projects. He gave impetus to education, irrigation, commerce, industry, power sector and other areas.”

Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) chairman H V Rajeev said, “When the height of the KRS reservoir was disputed, Visvesvaraya spoke to Madras Presidency and got permission to increase it.  He impressed one and all with his line of argument. Every house in the old Mysuru region and Mandya has a photo of Visvesvaraya.  He was the first Kannadiga to have received more than 70 doctorates. He planned many pro-people projects in Karnataka.”

District Brahmins Association president D T Prakash said, “We have been celebrating Visvesvaraya’s birth anniversary for the last 10 years but the state government and district administration seem to be least bothered.  Sir M V Jayanti should organised at Kalamandira and the issue should be discussed in the Assembly.”

City BJP president T S Ssrivatsa, Mylac president N V Phaneesh, Congress leader N M Naveen, MCC corporators M V Ram Prasad and M D Nagaraj, MUDA member Lakshmidevi, Jeevadhara Blood Bank director Girish, Vikram Iyengar, Ajay Shastri, Jogi Manju, Somasundar, Vanish Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Venkatasubbaiah, Sadashiva, Suchindra, KRS Vijay Kumar, Jayasimha, Ranganath and others were present.  (MR/KS).
