To create scientific temperament among the people, the University of Mysore has come up with new initiatives in the 2016-17 budget proposal and to strengthen scientific ideas at high school and in rural areas. The university will provide mobile library in rural areas which will include books and compact discs related to science, especially basic sciences.
“Science is a vast subject that relates to various aspects of innovations and experiments. A majority of the people in rural areas believe that science is restricted to the laboratories,” said Vice Chancellor of University of Mysore, Prof K S Rangappa here on Tuesday during the academic council meeting. The UoM increased the estimated amount for development programmes of science from Rs five lakh to Rs 35 lakh.
New course in law department
During the meeting, the committee unanimously agreed to introduce integrated BCom, LLB course in the Mysore University School of Law, while the registrar of University Professor C Basavaraju tabled the proposal and its essentials to introduce corporate law. BCom, LLB is a five-year integrated course which will be started from the academic year 2016-17.
Besides, the School of Law will introduce many specialised law chairs such as consumer chair, good governance and RTI chair, mental health chair, international study chair and social justice chair in the coming days.
Also the academic council raised the issues related to post graduation certificates and PhD certificates for the new course introduced in the recent past. As far as now the certificate was provided under the common subject category. The degree holders were not provided with certificates in accordance with the specialized area.
An introduction of PG diploma in Public Administration and Panchayat Raj was also recommended by the concerned council members. Also, in accordance with University Grant Commission notification, the council agreed to introduce NCC and NSS cells in undergraduate colleges. The meeting was chaired by VC Prof K S Rangappa. Registrar C Basavaraju tabled the budget for the academic year 2016-17.
