Prime News, Karnataka, Bengaluru, July 5: – The smart meters to replace conventional electric meters to save energy will be rolled out in Karnataka State, says Energy minister DK Shivakumar.
According to Bescom Managing Director, P Rajendra Cholan, the power corporation is planning to replace five lakh conventional energy meters with smart meters in a phased manner under the model subdivision scheme in Bengaluru.
Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited, Bescom MD explaining the features of smart energy meters, says that it provides utility company to cut supply to a few lights or gadgets in individual houses so that load shedding could be avoided at peak hours.
Energy minister DK Shivakumar said, now, it is mandatory for all temporary connections to install smart pre-paid meters for precise power consumption in Bengaluru.
Each smart meter would cost rupees 5,000 to ropes 6,000, the energy company wants to know from the government that consumer also will bear the cost of the meters.
Shivakumar further announced that, 3,919 transformers out of 4,385 located on pavements be remodelled so that they can occupy just about six-inch space.
