Mysuru, January 17:-The eight-day South Zone and All India Inter-University Men’s Kho-Kho Tournament kickstarted in the city on Wednesday.
The Physical Education Department of the University of Mysore which has hosted the South Zone Kho-Kho Tournament from January 17 to 20 and the All India event from January 22 to 24, was formally inaugurated by In-charge Vice Chancellor of University of Mysore Prof C Basavaraju at the UoM Pavilion Grounds here.
The 100-year-old UoM which hosted the South Zone Inter-University Women’s Kho-Kho Tournament is now hosting the eight-day long Kho-Kho Tournament for universities across the country. A total of 62 South Zone university teams are taking part in the competition which will be played on a knock out-cum-league basis.
The defending champions in the past tournament Mangalore University, Kuvempu University which stood second, University of Mysore, which stood third, and Calicut University, which managed to clinch fourth place has been directly seeded into quarter finals.
Registrar (administration) University of Mysore K Bharathi, Director (In-charge) Physical Education Department, University of Mysore P Krishnaiah, University of Mysore cricket coach Mansoor Ahmad and others were present. –(KK)
