It is a great feeling to all Indians after winning one gold and bronze medal each in men’s high jump T-42 event in the current Paralympics being held at Rio de Janeiro. Although our players failed miserably in many events, baring a silver and bronze medal each, in recently concluded Olympics, Mariappan Thangevelu from Tamil Nadu and Bhati Varun Singh from UP made us proud by winning the respective medals to the country. In the history of Paralympics, Mariappan’s gold is the first gold to India in high jump event and he is the only third Indian to bring gold medal for our country in any event of Paralympics conducted so far. Thus they stood as role models to other physically challenged persons. Congratulations to both of them. This may give confidence to other athletes too. Good luck to other Indian athletes of this tournament.
