Addressing a press conference, Secretary JSS Mahavidyapeetha S P Manjunath said that the year-long birth centenary celebrations of Shivakumara Swamiji is being celebrated with more grandeur. A series of activities have been organised by the committee, Shivarathri Rajendra Jyothiyathre is one such event. The Jyothiyatre will travel through various districts in the state and neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra and Tam-il Nadu, through which the life and teachings of Dr Shivaku-mara Swamiji will be spread to the public. The 100-day Jyothiyatre is expected to cover 5,000 kms in and around the state. The Jyothiyatre will be accompanied by a colourful procession comprising folk troupes and seminars will also be held.
He said that Dr Shivaku-mara Swamiji was well known for his profound learning and broad vision. “Swamiji’s contribution to society in the field of education is immense. Thousands of students irrespective of caste and religion are given free education along with free food and lodging by the mutt. Hence, in memory of the Swamiji, a slew of activities have been launched from the past one year and will culminate with a valedictory function scheduled in August this year,” he added.
