State govt asked to shelve Maratha Development Authority plan

Mysuru, January 9:- The state government’s decision to set up a Maratha Development Authority (MDA) has not gone down well with most Kannada outfits and many political parties. Ever since Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa made the decision some time back, it is facing stiff opposition from all quarters.

Kannada Cheluvali Kendra Samithi, Mysuru, on Saturday (January 9) staged a protest near Babu Jagjivan Ram Circle near the Mysuru Railway Station, condemning the government decision.

Talking on the occasion, president Mooguru Nanjundaswamy said, “Maharashtra has been anti-Karnataka all along. Marathas have been unleashing violence on Kannadigas in the border district of Belagavi. Setting up MDA is an insult to Kannadigas and the decision should be shelved. On January 30, we are planning a “rail roko” protest.”

Rajya Hindulida Vargagala Jagruthi Vedike state president Shivaram, environmentalist Bhanumohan, Kannada activists Tayuru Vittalamurthy, Balakrishna, P C Nagaraj, Nijalingappa, Mahadevaswamy and Lokesh Kumar were present during the protest. (MR/KS)
