State govt urged to provide social security to street play artistes

Mysuru, June 8:- Secretary of Street Play Troupes Confederation, Anjanappa Lokikere has urged the state government to provide social security to street play artistes.

He was speaking at the regional meeting of district wing of State Street Play Artistes’ Association at Dhwanyaloka in the city on Friday.

“Street play artistes were involved in freedom struggle. Street play artistes have been creating awareness among the public. But now they don’t have any social security. We have to be united the same way how ASHA volunteers, autorickshaw drivers are united. But we are not united. Two conventions will be held in Davanagere. We won’t get justice from the government until we fight for our rights. We have to organise a convention in Bengaluru of all the artistes to show our strength,” he said.

“Street play artistes had clarity. They were visiting villages selflessly for achieving social development. Street play represents the actual problem or situation of the society,” said former director of Rangayana H Janardhan.

State president Guarantee Ramanna, R Chakrapani, A Salma, Savitha and others were present. (GK, NGB)
