Karnataka state Samyukta Asha Karyakarthara Sangha, Mysuru is conducting a state level convention and rally on December 16 in Mysuru.
The convention is being held to press for a permanent monthly wage for the activists and many more requests such as security, banning Asha nidhi programme and settlement of pending salary of the Asha activists. “Since one year, more than 35,000 activists have been working across the state along with the department of health to spread awareness on cleanliness and health-related problems. Yet most of the activists have not been paid from the last 7 to 8 years,” the activists said.
Though an online portal ‘Asha Soft’ was started to mitigate the financial problems of the Asha activists, it has completely failed to serve any purpose. Demanding all these basic facilities, thousands of Asha activists have decided to take part in the convention demanding justice.
