Revenue and District in-charge Minister V Srinivas Prasad inaugurated the State-level Journalists’ Cricket tournament at J K Grounds in the city on Saturday.
Mysore District Journalists’ Association (MDJA) in association with Karnataka Union of Working Journalists had organised a two-day State-level Cricket Tournament on Saturday.
Inaugurating the tournament Minister Srinivas Prasad said, “I am happy to know that MDJA has organised a state-level cricket tournament. Programmes such as this are needed as it helps journalists relieve their stress resulting from the nature of their job. Apart from providing them with much needed break, it also helps to build sportsmanship among them.”
“Stress is inherent in the job of journalists. The physical stress is immense. Thus, the association has organised an exhibition to highlight the importance of Ayurveda which will help in maintaining a healthy and fit regime,” he added.
As many as 16 teams from the state like Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Managaluru, Bagalkote, Tumakuru, Kodagu, Udupi and others will be taking part in the tournament. The winning team will bag a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and the runners up will bag Rs 30,000 with trophies and mementos.
An opening match between Mangalore and Bagalkote teams was held in the morning. The matches are organised both in J K Grounds and at the Coffee Board Grounds. A Yoga programme titled ‘Arogya Yoga’ was also held on the occasion.
On Saturday evening a cultural programme will be organised for journalists and an interaction with popular music director Hamsalekha and a play will be staged. On Sunday, a heritage walk has been organised. MCC and Department of Archaeology, Heritage and museums Commissioner C G Betsurmath will lead the heritage walk. The valedictory and prize distribution ceremony will be held on Sunday evening.
