Mysuru, September 22:- “The state government will introduce a new sports policy to encourage sports-persons perform well and bring laurels to the nation,” said Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Dasara Sports Meet at Chamundi Vihar Stadium at Nazarbad in the city on Thursday.
“The certificates secured at Dasara Sports Meet will henceforth be valued by the government. Gold medalists will be given a cash prize of Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 for silver medalists and Rs 10,000 for bronze medalists. These certificates will be recognised at state and union levels,” he said.
The minister also announced a cash award of Rs 10 lakh for grandmaster Tej Kumar and Rs 25 lakh cash award to players of Indian women’s cricket team, Veda Krishnamurthy and Rajeshwari Gaikwad. The three were felicitated on the occasion.
Dr M P Varsha, Kumaraswamy and team brought the sports torch from Chamundi Hills to the stadium. More than 2,000 athletes took part in the sports meet.
Dasara Sports Sub-Committee president Somashekar, secretary Satish Kumar and others were present.
