State will be open defecation free by 2018: Patil

“The Panchayat Raj award for 2015-16 has been bagged by Karnataka,” said Rural Development Minister H K Patil here on Saturday.

“The department of Information and Technology identifies a state every year and awards it. Last year too, Karnataka had won the award. We aim at making Karnataka open defecation-free by next ear. Around 25 lakh toilets will be constructed to achieve the goal. Close to 70% of the target has already been achieved,” the minister said.

He said that the central government’s move to ban red beacon is a welcome move and informed that he had removed the beacon from his car. The appointment of new president for KPCC is left to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister Dr G Parameshwar, he said.
