Stop converting fertile land into layouts: Farmers’ leaders

Farmers plan 'black flag' protest during CM's visit to Mysuru during Dasara festival

Mysuru, October 8:- All the farmers’ unions have decided to go on a black flag protest when Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and District in-charge Minister S T Somashekar come to Mysuru during Dasara festivities.

The farmers’ unions were protesting near Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) office on JLB Road here on Thursday (October 8).

They said, “MUDA is out to purchase all the fertile land and develop it into a layout. When P S Kantharaju was the commissioner of MUDA, he had dropped many plans that were deemed to be anti-farmer. Now MUDA chairman H V Rajeev is planning to go ahead with the plan. There is certainly a selfish motive behind this. Rajeev has 300-400 acres of land near Ballalli and he wants to make it a layout. “

They added, “Ballalli should have become a layout by now, but it has been kept as Rajeev’s land has not been denotified. Many private developers have bought land in Lalithadripura 3rd and 4th Stages, Kumbarakoppal and Vijayanagar. MUDA should stop grabbing fertile land in the interest of the farmers.” (MR/KS)
