The scope in Media studies has increased manifold and a large number of students are pursuing it.
Students of Journalism and Mass Communication, SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, interacted with Dr B K Ravi, Chairman, Departmen of Journalism and Mass Communication, Bangalore University, on the “Opportunities in Media Studies,” on Monday.
“Media industry is vast and hence it offers immense opportunities. There is no dearth of job in the media and entertainment industry. These jobs not only offer a promising future but also provide immense creative satisfaction. This industry will continue to grow and thus translate more job opportunities and better pay package,” he added.
Post liberalisation, the scope for media studies has increased manifold and a large number of candidates are pursuing this subject for a career. It is the era of media where TV channels are mushrooming both in English and regional languages. On the other hand, the print media is also not behind in the race in recruiting candidates. Print media too offers a lot of scope for reporters, editors, photojournalists, cartoonists, he added.
Answering a question on opportunities in the government sector for students with journalism and mass communication background, he spoke about the opportunities in Akashvani (All India Radio), Prasar Bharti, Doordarshan, Direct to Home, Press Information Bureau, Press Council of India, Song and Drama Division, Film Division, National Film Archive of India, etc and urged the students to equip themselves with the skills set required for the same.
