Sugarcane growers stage protest; demand release of Kabini water to canals

Mysuru, February 20:- Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers’ Association members staged protest demanding Kabini River water for the crops.

The protesters gathered in front of CADA office here and urged the state government to release water immediately to Kabini right bank canal, left bank canal, Hullahalli, Ramapura, Devaraja Urs canal, CDS canal and Ramaswamy canal to fill up the lakes and for crops during summer. They said that if waters are released for 10-15 days, there will be no water scarcity in summer. They said that sufficient water has been released to Tamil Nadu and that the state would not take up Cauvery water issue again. They warned of intense protests if water isn’t released within a week.

Kurubur Shanthakumar, Athahalli Devaraj, P Somashekhar, Kiragasuru Shankar, Baradanapura Nagaraj and others were present. (KS, NGB)
