The Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted bail to actress Rhea Chakraborty in an alleged drug-related case pertaining to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. While Rhea was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh, the high court rejected the plea of her brother Showik Chakraborty.
Rhea Chakraborty has been asked to submit Rs 1 lakh as bond and mark her presence daily at the nearest police station for 10 days after her release. She also has to hand over her passport and cannot travel abroad without the court’s permission.
On the other hand, accusing Sushant Singh Rajput’s family and their legal advisors of “interfering and tampering with the investigations”, team Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyers have warned that they will bring it to the notice of the appropriate courts. Advocate Satish Maneshinde, who represents Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik, said that the kin and lawyers of the late actor are raising doubts on the probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and also the conclusions of the AIIMS forensic team.
In her bail petition, Rhea Chakraborty had said that she and her brother were sole targets of a witch-hunt by multiple agencies who had found no evidence incriminating her in the case. She had alleged that Sushant Singh Rajput “took advantage of those closest to him to sustain his drug habit” and that she had tried to rid him of it. She also said he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and his family abandoned him at the peak of his depression. His mental health “deteriorated during the lockdown.”
