JSS Women’s College and JSS Women’s PU College had organised the birth centenary celebrations of Dr Shivaratri Rajendra seer of Suttur and Nudinamana programme at their premises, recently.
Former minister Prof B K Chandrasekhar inaugurated the programme. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “JSS institutions are known for quality education, neatness, silence, culture and conduct. The mutt has enabled progressive education in the institution. We should not speak lightly about the religious institutions and religions. Lots of developments are required in education, social, economic and scientific fields. India is a land of diversified culture. Society should be developed from the grassroots in order to build the nation strongly,” he said.
“Education is in a dangerous situation. Individuality should not be allowed in education. Universities should not be under anyone’s control. Along with studyies, students should also concentrate on sports, music and yoga. Suttur Mutt is serving for the better world. Swamiji has been doing good deeds for the society irrespective of religion, caste and gender,” he added.
“Shivaratri Rajendra Swamiji achieved through his great conduct. He thought that the entire society belonged to him and his aim was to develop the society. He provided food for the poor and the needy. He is known for service and sacrifice. Not only for Karnataka, JSS is a lifeline for the nation. Swamiji himself was an institution,” said Prabhu Channabasava seer of Motagi Mutt, Athani.
“It is my privilege to take part in the birth centenary of Swamiji. He provided free education, hostel facilities and food for students. Women have achieved a lot in all walks of life. But do they have freedom and satisfaction? Women should develop confidence and conduct to be strong,” said Shashikala Annasaheb Jolle, MLA of Nippani.
Panchama Shivalingeshwara seer of Nidasosi Siddasamsthana mutt praised the growth of JSS institutions. “Along with education, the institution provides hostel and food for the students. Mutt is doing the job of a government,” he said.
Former mayor and member of city corporation R Lingappa gave scholarships to students.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of quiz regarding the life of Shivaratri Rajendra seer, inter-college folk song, vachana singing and analyzing, and volleyball.
MLA Vasu presided over the function. Dr Mrutyunjaya Kulenur, Principal K V Suresh, teaching and non-teaching staff and students were present on the occasion.
