‘Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat’ campaign is being observed all over the Indian Railways between September 17 and September 25. South Western Railway observed ‘Swachh Samarpan Diwas’ (dedication for ensuring cleanliness) on September 24.
A K Gupta, General Manager of South Western Railway, administered the pledge to the officers and staff at GM’s Office, Hubballi. After the pledge, a walkathon from GM’s office to Rail Nagar and from there to Chalukya Institute, led by Gupta, P A Lamghare, Chief Mechanical Engineer, was held to increase awareness among railway employees and their families.
The Railway School children, Scouts & Guides, Civil Defence OrganiSation staff, officers and staff participated and displayed placards and raised slogans on cleanliness. At Rail Nagar, tree plantation programme was held. Then a team from Hubballi workshop performed a Beedi Nataka which highlighted how unclean surroundings can lead to diseases.
Speaking on the occasion, Gupta said that everyone should inculcate the habit of maintaining cleanliness and should contribute towards cleanliness of their surroundings, city and the country. He has also emphasised that ensuring cleanliness is a continuous exercise. “This walkathon has been organised to educate and bring awareness among the people,” he added.
Arun Kumar Jain, Divisional Railway Manager of Hubballi, Premchand, Chief Personal Officer; Rajeev Kumar, Chief Electrical Engineer, Anil Pavithran, Chief Commercial Manager, D B Kasar, Chief Security Commissioner and other officers were present.
