Mayor B L Bhyrappa urged the students to strive for development of the country here on Thursday.
He was speaking after inaugurating the District Youth Convention and award distribution programme organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mysore District jointly with Department of Collegiate Education, Students Welfare Department and NSS wing of University of Mysore at Humanities block.
Addressing the gathering, he said that Swachh Bharath Abhiyan launched by Central government has been a great success in the city. “Mysuru retained its tag as the cleanest city in the country. We are the first to declare ourselves as a ‘Plastic free city’ following the directions from state government. Besides these achievements, a recent survey has revealed that Mysuru stands first in the country and fourth in the world with respect to less carbon dioxide omitted within city limits. This is a great accomplishment for the city. Many NGOs have joined hands with MCC to achieve this. Likewise, youth should also strive to contribute something for the country,” he noted.
On the occasion, Sri Sneha Spandana Mahila Mandali was presented with Best Youth Association award for the year 2014- 15. The award included a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 25000.
Joint Director Department of Collegiate Education Prof Morabada Mallikarjuna; Administrative officer University of Mysore Prof C Ramaswamy; Dean Dr M Rudraiah; M N Nataraj of Nehru Yuva Kendra and others were present.
