‘Teachers urged to develop reading culture in children’

‘Reader is a Leader’ and therefore Reading culture needs to be fostered in children from the tender age, said Dr N N Prahallada, Consultant, National Early Literacy Programme of NCERT for Southern States, Regional Institute of Education, Mysuru, during his visit to schools in Telangana State for reviewing and monitoring implementation of Early Literacy Programme (ELP).

Dr Prahallada called upon teachers to implement early literacy activities like reading, writing and arithmetic on appropriate lines using print rich environment and reading corners in class I and II. Teachers should select appropriate children’s literature including charts maps diagrams to be displayed in reading corners.
Dr Prahallada recently visited Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to review and monitor ELP in these states during 2015-16.
Dr N N Prahallada of RIE, Mysuru, recently visited Mandal Parishad Primary School in Anmagal, Ranga Rao district of Hyderabad, Telangana and reviewed ELP. Telangana educational officers and primary school class I children are also seen.
