The family get together programme on account of Sankranthi was organised by Telugu Sanskruthika samithi (TSS) at the Mysore Gujarathi Samaja, Yadavagiri recently which was well attended by more than 200 members who participated and enjoyed the music, dance and the Andhra lunch specially arranged on the occasion.
Shuba Nayak, Vice President, portrayed the customs and practices followed during the festival, while inviting the Sumangalis to their houses. Students who had earned top marks in classes 10, 12 and PUC exams were also rewarded for their achievement by Jaganmohan Rao, President of TSS. .
Harikrishna from Regional Institute of Education and member of TSS, explained the significance of the Gobbi festival and Sankranthi to all the members. Several men, women and children danced to the tunes of film and folk songs in Telugu and enjoyed the occasion. Rangoli and fancy dress competitions were conducted and winners were suitably rewarded. Srinivas, MC member, informed that the TSS is on the plans of construction of a Telugu Bhavanam on its own site at RK Nagar and appealed to the members to contribute liberally for the building fund for which several members spontaneously responded.
The programme was sponsored by prominent persons who included B Venkata reddy, the General Manager of Swathi Newspapers, Bengaluru, Rajendra, President Hotel and President of Mysore Hotel owners Association, Jayaram, partner of Hotel Siddartha and Vice president of TSS, Shubha Nayak owners of Friendly Motors and Vice president of TSS, builders Doreswamy Raju, Ravindranatha Reddy, Ravishankar and other members including Ramaprasad Rao, KV Ramanath, Ramesh kumar, Ramachandra, Manjunatha Setty, Varalakshmi, DVSN Srinivas, Srinivas, Shyam Prasad, Jeevakeswara rao, Viswanath and others were present.
