Mysuru, August 21:- In a move aimed at inculcating reading habit among mahouths, kavadis and their children who are in the city for Dasara, the Department of Public Instruction, Department of Public Libraries, City Central Library will set up a Tent School and Tent Library in Mysuru Palace premises.
Primary and Secondary Education Department Minister Tanvir Sait will inaugurate the both facilities on Monday. To avoid dropout of kids from the Ashram Schools where the children study in their respective villages, due to temporary migration of their parents the tent school and Tent Library is helps to continue education without any barriers. Education department has deployed one full time teacher at the school and under the motto ‘Book for all’, the library is expected to reach out to children and enlighten them on various subjects.
“The library philosophy is to serve all. Library is the backbone of every school, so we took up this initiative. These children can hardly get access to books. And also we have planned to conduct 32 activities on handling books in the next 40 days”, City Central Library Deputy Director B Manjunath stated.
The authorities will place 2000 books mostly contains attractive illustrations, story books and biographies. Children can choose the books themselves. Not just books, news papers and children magazines also placed. They can also borrow books from the library free of cost. The library will be kept open between 9.30 am and 1.30 pm. Department of Libraries, University of Mysore researchers will be taking part as volunteers and guide the kids every day. The children will be in the city for the next forty days.
