Thief stealing gold from temples nabbed

Mysuru, March 11:- A complaint about missing gold from Shaneshwara temple at Kuvempunagar police station limits had been filed recently. A team of police, led by Krishnaraja ACP, has arrested a person who was standing with his fellow members at Lingambudhi Palya ring road junction.

The arrested has been identified as Mayura (37) of Yallamma Colony of Bannimantap. During the inquiry, he confessed to stealing gold and silver from Shaneshwara temple of Ramakrishna Nagar and Maruleshwara temple of Ashokapuram. Police took him to custody and recovered 120-gram gold worth Rs 3.8 lakh, 240- gram silver and a two-wheeler used for the theft.

Police have also arrested a jeweller, Lakshman (49), owner of Balaji bankers and jewellers of BM Shri Nagar, Metagalli for purchasing stolen gold. Mayura is said to have involved in several thefts in temples at Kuvempunagar, Nazarbad, Mandya, Ramanagar and Kanakapura regions. His team members have absconded and police are in search of them.

The operation was guided by DCP Mutturaj, ACP Dharmappa, Kuvempunagar police inspector Raju, PSI Raghu, ASI Somegowda, and staff. (MR/KS).
