Thieves fail to break open Hundi at Maruthi Temple in Mysuru; flee

Mysuru, August 03:- Burglars made a futile attempt to rob a temple at Gangotri Layout in the city on Thursday night. The incident came to light when the priest arrived at the temple on Friday morning.

According to the priest, the burglar may have broke open the lock of the Maruthi Temple at Gangotri Layout in the city on Thursday late night. On entering the main door of the temple, the culprit has tried to open the Hundi (Offering Box) of the temple but has been unsuccessful. He may have fled from the spot after failing to open the hundi.

Saraswathipuram Police officers recorded the statements of the priest and started investigations to nab the culprit.

During last week, taking advantage of the deserted streets in the city following the century’s longest lunar eclipse phenomena, the burglars had struck at nearly eight shops and commercial establishments at Kanakadasanagar and Dattagalli in the city.

With a spurt in burglary cases in the last couple of weeks, the police are on their toes to nab the burglars and have intensified the search operations. -(KS, KK)
