The annual St Anthony’s feast was celebrated with religious fervour at Dornahalli in the taluk on Monday. The nine-day festival that began on June 4 concluded on Monday, with special Mass prayers and a car festival.
Thousands of pilgrims from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Maharashtra, Delhi and other places attended the festival. A few of the pilgrims tonsured their heads, as practiced in Hindu religion, to fulfill their vow.
Rt Rev Thomas Antony Vazhapilly, Bishop of Mysuru Diocese, Fr M Swamy Joseph Abraham of Bengaluru and others performed special rituals and conducted Masses in Kannada and Tamil. A specially decorated chariot carrying St Antony’s idol was taken out by the pilgrims in a procession.
Elaborate security arrangements had been made by the police.
