Three-day celebrations set to begin tomorrow

The stage is now set for the  valedictory function of the birth centenary celebrations of Jagadguru Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the 23rd pontiff of Suttur, to be held at Suttur Kshetra from August 27 to 29.

The three-day celebrations include ‘vachana gayana’, Mallakamba show, drama, regional folk dance, dance on wheelchairs by the differently-abled.

 Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji was born on August 29, 1916 and ascended the peetha at the age of 12. He was instrumental in the growth of the socio-cultural dimensions of the mutt. The centenary celebrations were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 2 and the Sri Rajendra Jyothi Yatra was started on May 5 from Mysuru and traversed 5,200 km across Karnakata, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh for 114 days before reaching Suttur.

The celebrations will be inaugurated by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, while Home Minister G. Parameshwara will release a book, ‘Ghana Mana’. The diamond jubilee celebrations of JSS Mahavidhapeeta will be held on August 27 and will be inaugurated by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
