Prime News, National, Karnataka, Mysuru, April 14:- Dr B R Ambedkar’s Jayanti will be meaningful only when we can get rid of inequality, atrocity and untouchability in the society, opined University of Mysore (UoM) Vice-Chancellor Prof G Hemanth Kumar here on Wednesday (April 14).
Prof Kumar was talking during the 130th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar organised by Dr B R Ambedkar Research Centre and SC/ST Special Cell at the Vishwajnani Hall in Manasagangothri here.
The Vice-Chancellor said, “The country is not what Dr Ambedkar thought of. We have to take a bold step to get rid of untouchability in society. Dr Ambedkar thought of a strong India and we need to work on these lines. We are not seeing India that has been projected in the Constitution.”
Dr Kumar said, “Dr Ambedkar laid the foundation stone for social change in India. Dr Ambedkar will be alive in our minds for centuries to come. What he has done will remain a monument for ages. Only when we realise his dreams, there will be some meaning for Ambedkar Jayanti.”
He said, “Many renowned universities in the world have taken up research work on Dr Ambedkar and UoM is in the forefront.”
Haryana government’s Additional Chief Secretary Dr Rajashekar Woondru gave a speech on Ambedkar.
UoM Registrar Prof R Shivappa, theatre expert C Basavalingaiah, Prof S Mahadevamurthy, Dr B R Ambedkar Research Centre director Prof J Somashekar and others were present. (MR/KS)
