Train runs over woman at Chamarajapuram

In a tragic incident, a woman who was crossing the railway track was killed when the train ran over her at Chamarajapuram railway station on Tuesday morning. She was supposed to board the same train heading towards Chamarajanagar.

The woman has been identified as fifty-eight-yearold Premamma, a Group D employee at the office of Chamarajanagar Superintendent of Police. She had secured the job 18 years ago on humanitarian grounds after the death of her husband Lin gaiah. Premamma lived with her family in Bogadi second Stage.

It was a routine for her to board the Mysuru-Chamarajanagar train that stops at the Chamarajapuram railway station at 7:30 am and she used to be dropped to the station by her son-in-law. On Tuesday too, she was dropped by her son-in-law.

By the time she reached the station, the gates were closed. She saw a couple of passengers crossing the track and in a hurry to board the approaching train, she crossed the track think- ing that she could make it. The passenger train hit her and dragged her for over 20 feet before stopping. The impact of the accident was such that her body was crushed and the limbs were separated.

The Mysuru-Chamarajanagar train is usually crowded and has over 14 bogies. It stops at the Chamarajapuram station for about a minute. A huge crowd had gathered at the station. The accident, however, did not disturb other train services. The body has been shifted to K R Hospital mortuary.
