Mysuru, October 8:- “It is difficult to translate literature from one language to another,” opined Prof Thalthaje Vasanth Kumar.
He was speaking after inaugurating Kannada textbooks and Kittel Kannada dictionary at Central Institute of Indian Languages here on Monday.
“A senior writer had once opined that altering Halegannada literature to new Kannada is not right. It is not easy to translate Koodalasangama, Channamallikarjuna and others. It is difficult to translate the books on religious and cultural backgrounds,” he added.
CIIL director Prof D G Rao, senior linguist Prof RVS Sundaram, Dr Shankarappa, Dr Ramamurthy and others were present. (MR/GK).
