Treat Tipu Sultan like a freedom fighter: Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj

Mysuru, July 31:- Saying the state government has failed in its effort to control coronavirus pandemic, Kannada activist and former MLA Vatal Nagaraj staged a protest at Hardinge Circle here on Thursday (July 30).

Speaking to reporters during the course of the protest, Nagaraj said, “The state government has failed on all fronts. There is a total misunderstanding among the ministers and there is no one to listen to the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa. The state is reporting up to 3,000 coronavirus cases almost every day. At least now, the government should wake up to take control of the situation.”

Responding to the government decision to delete a lesson on Tipu Sultan from textbooks, Nagaraj commented, “He was a freedom fighter. He fought against the British at the cost of his own sons. If the government decides to go ahead with its decision, there will be a revolution in the state.”

Expressing his opposition to online education, the Kannada activist said, “I oppose it totally. How many people can afford to buy laptops and smartphones? How will the poor families buy such costly gadgets?”

This apart, as a veteran leader, Nagaraj totally forgot to wear a face mask and maintain physical distance. When he is saying that the government has failed in its efforts to control the pandemic, he should be a role model and follow the government guidelines. But he was firm on flouting them. (MR/KS)
