TV and cell phones affecting reading habits of youth: Corporator MV Ramaprasad

Mysuru, November 20:- “We should make friends with books and library. Books are the best friends one can have,” said corporator M V Ramaprasad.

He was speaking after inaugurating the ‘National Library Week – 2017’ at Chamundipuram Library here on Monday.

“2017 is a special year for we Mysureans. 83rd Kannada Sahitya Sammelana is being held here. E-library will be launched soon at Chamundipuram Library which would benefit students. Every Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) ward should have at least two libraries. The number of readers should increase so that more libraries may be opened in the city. Those who cultivate the habit of reading become intelligent. With the advent of television and cell phones, reading habit is on the decline especially among the youth. Make your children read good books in addition to quality education. Bring them to the library. We are marching towards being ahead of western countries in all the aspects,” he said.

C Sandeep, Manjunath, Aravind, library staff and others were present.
