Two-day seminar on alternate crops from May 20

Mysuru, May 17:- “Along with coffee and pepper, which are the major crops of Coorg, a farmer can grow an alternate crop to become economically stable,” said the director of Central Plantation Centre, Chettalli, Dr I N Doreyappa Gowda on Tuesday.

He was speaking at a press meet in connection with national seminar to be held on May 20 and 21 at Gandhi Maidan of Madikeri.

The centre is organising the seminar to create awareness among farmers of the district regarding the alternate crops in association with ICR and IIHR, Bengaluru.

The seminar will discuss the future of fruit crops, butter fruit, rambutan, kokam, lichi, and other fruits and flowers along with coffee and pepper. A total of eight topics will be discussed in the seminar.

Dr A K Singh, Dr Janakiram, Vice Chancellors of agriculture universities Dr D L Maheshwar, Dr Vasudevappa and others will be present in the seminar. (MR/KCI).
