Two-day workshop to develop research culture at NIE

Mysuru: NIE – Centre for Research and Development (NIE-CRD) at the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) organised a two-day workshop on ‘Engineering Faculty – You Can Do Research, Learn How….’ under the sponsorship of MHRD’s Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-III).

Dr. C.Ranganathaiah, Director (A&A), JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Technical Education Division, Mysuru, inaugurated the workshop and delivered a keynote address.
In his address, Dr. Ranganathaiah said the institutions will become stronger in research as the coming engineering faculty is nurtured with proper guidance. “No civilisation can survive without education”. “In the last few years, we are experiencing new technology which made the question arising on “what will be engineering subjected to challenge, also are we going to offer the same course to the future students whereas it is a belief that in the coming years ,the courses such as artificial intelligence may take the centrestage.”

Dr. G Ravi, principal, Dr. Suresha B Dean (R&D) chairman, NIE-CRD and other dignitaries graced the occasion.

Dr. Suresha spoke about the essence of this workshop which was spread over two days and its relevance to the present research scenario and highlighted the objectives of the NIE-CRD which is a new step taken to build the research culture in NIE and also motivate the young faculty mMembers of NIE to do research and publish in reputed peer-reviewed journals which make NIE’s research presence felt both at the national and International level.

In his speech Dr. Ravi said the idea behind the workshop was to enhance the ambience level where there is enough research infrastructure to carry out in the respective departments. Especially, with advancements made in computing the data, its idea to make the interdisciplinary resulting in the newer inventions.

The workshop gave greater insights into various topics such as research ethics, development of working hypotheses and preparing the research design, plagiarism, scientific writing, citation methods and styles, research grant proposals. The event covered various aspects of research and design approaches for quality research which would be delivered by eminent resource persons from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore,  Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDM-IMD), JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Technical Education Division, Mysuru and University of Mysuru (UoM).
