Two ducks die at DC’s residence

Two of the five ducks at Jalasannidhi campus, the official residence of the Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru, died on Monday.

Officials said the ducks may have died after drinking water from containers that got polluted while spraying pesticides on plants at the sprawling campus on Vinobha Road in the city. A gander died in the morning while a goose in the evening. Deputy Commissioner D Randeep asked officials to relocate the rest of the ducks as a precautionary measure.

Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences PM Prasad Murthy said that the post-mortem report suggests that ducks may have consumed polluted water and died. We have sent samples to IAH and VB, Bengaluru, for confirmation because Mysuru has recently witnessed death of geese at the Mysuru Zoo due to avian influenza- H5N8,” he said. Following the incident the campus was sanitised with disinfectant.
