Two eminent engineers felicitated to mark Engineer’s Day

Mysuru, September 24:- The Mysuru Centre of ACCE (I) and The Ramco Cements Limited jointly organised the Engineer’s Day at MBCT Auditorium on Akkamahadevi Road in the city on Friday (September 20).

Two eminent civil engineers – Prof M S Jayadeva, former principal of SJCE and Er Parvez E Rudina, renowned civil engineer and builder, were honoured.

Prof S Vidyashankar, vice-chancellor, KSOU and K Jayakumar, vice president, The Ramco Cements Ltd, were the chief guest and guest of honour.

Replying to the felicitation, Dr Jayadeva emphasised on the need to control population explosion, preventing encroachment of agricultural lands and forests, providing multi-level parking facilities and conservation of water.

Rudina called upon the young civil engineers and builders to be dedicated and focus on quality standards. Both the awardees thanked ACCE (I) for the honours they received.

Earlier, the function started with a melodious invocation by member, Dr K S Manjunath. chairman, S Prakash gave an insight into the activities of the centre and welcomed the gathering. He also said that ACCE (I) had bagged the best centre award at the national level and complimented past chairman, Er B R Badarinath and team.

Anil Pillai, GM, technical services, Ramco Cements, gave an insight into new products of the company.

Jayakumar said that the company was customising the products and producing application-based cement in order to meet the present-day challenges in the construction industry.

Prof Vidyashankar paid rich tributes to Sir M Visvesvaraya. He cited some deficiencies in certain public infrastructure projects and called upon the engineers to introspect, take appropriate measures to maintain high standards in construction and dispel fear in common man.

Earlier, the dignitaries inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp and floral tributes were paid to Sir MV. Citations of Prof Jayadeva and Rudina were read by Dr S Raviraj and Er B R Badarinath. Secretary M S Ramprasad proposed vote of thanks. (MR)
