Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited (CNNL) has taken up the de-silting work at Hadinaru Lake to increase water storage capacity of the lake. CNNL is planning to build a pathway for walkers, fencing of the perimeter of the water body which covers an area of 200 acres.

CNNL is also planning to develop an island in the lake to attract migratory birds. The lake was once home to hundreds of wild geese. H P Janardhan, Deputy Director of the tourism department, Mysuru said that efforts would be made to create a favourable ecosystem for birds of various species at Hadinaru Lake.

“Mooguru Lake is almost completely dry now. The Hadinaru Lake which used to attract migratory exotic birds from Mongolia is dying a slow death. The tourism department is helping CNNL to make Hadinaru Lake more attractive,” Janardhan added.
