Two wild elephants electrocuted

Madikeri, June 14:- The death of two wild elephants was reported at Kannagala village Virajapet taluk.

Two female elephants aged 26 and 19 years died, while grazing at a private estate. It is said that the elephants pulled a tree and the branch touched the power lines resulting in electrocution and death.

One villager pointed that recently in the district four elephants had died due to various reasons, while one injured elephant taken shelter in a pond died due to wounds; other was dead when it got stuck in the mud.

A disappointed villager narrated that the human and animal conflict increases due to insufficient permanent measures taken by forest department and elephants are riding private estates and are killing workers.
