Universities should preserve the folk arts: H Janardhan

Mysuru, May 20:- Janapadha Avvandira dina and folk games show was organised at BMSri auditorium of Manasagangotri on Saturday by Folk study center of UoM, Kuvempu Kannada study center and Pragathi Prathishtana.

Renowned theater person H Janardhan inaugurated the program. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Our state is known for its rich culture and heritage. Folk culture was given higher priority. But nowadays it is not getting the importance it deserves. There are people who lived upon the folk culture. Folk culture is the product of rural India. Schools, colleges and universities should take up the responsibility of preserving the folk culture.”

Director of Kuvempu Kannada study center Prof Preethi Srimandhar Kumar, convener Dr M Nanjaiah, Dr A C Lalitha, President of Pragathi Prathishtana B K Ajay and others were present. The program was followed by folk music and games (KS)
