University of Mysore Employees Credit Cooperative Society felicitated 43 retired employees of University of Mysore in the presence of varsity Vice Chancellor Professor K S Rangappa and Mayor B L Bhyrappa on Sunday. 40 meritorious students belonging to the families of UoM Employees Credit Cooperative Society were also honoured with scholarships and mementos.
Expressing dissatisfaction against programme organisers for using plastic bags to carry shawls and mementos, Mayor Bhyrappa requested the university employees to join hands with Mysuru City Corporation’s green initiatives. Suggesting them to use cloth bags while conducting such programmes, he urged them to plant saplings in their residential premises to increase the green cover.
Lauding VC Rangappa’s efforts, the Mayor said that where the public administration was unable to maintain the infrastructure gifted by the Maharajas of Mysore, Rangappa modernised the campus by taking special interest in academics and infrastructure.
Rangappa assured that he will take steps to start a home needs shopping centre for university employees on Maharaja College and Manasagangothri campuses at the earliest. The shopping centres will be similar to police canteen and it would have more benefits to all the non-teaching faculties who are paid less compared to lecturers and professors.
