US to resume fast processing of H-1B visas

Prime News, International, Washington, July 25:- The United States(US) has announced resuming fast processing of H-1 B  work visas for high skilled foreign professionals in categories exempt from Congress mandated limits much to the cheers of Indian Tech firms.

The H1-B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in speciality occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise in specialised fields. The technology companies depend on it to hire tens of thousands of employees each year for their projects to complete.

Trump had said that his administration is going to enforce ‘Hire American’ policy that is designed to protect jobs and wages of workers in the United States.

An official statement said yesterday “US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will resume premium processing for certain cap-exempt H-1B petitions effective immediately,”

The H-1B visa has cap of 65,000 visas for each fiscal year. Additionally, there is an annual “master’s cap” of 20,000 petitions filed for beneficiaries with a US master’s degree or higher.

USCIS plans to resume premium processing of other H-1B petitions as workloads permit. USCIS will make additional announcements with specific details related to when we will begin accepting premium processing for those petitions. Until then, premium processing remains temporarily suspended for all other H-1B petitions.
