Mysuru, September 25:- ‘Swacchatheye Seve’, a cleanliness drive to commemorate the 4th anniversary of Swachh Bharath was flagged off by Rajamatha Pramodha Devi Wadiyar here on Tuesday.
The programme was organised by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC). Pramodha Devi distributed cloth bags to the public at Devaraja market and Chikkagadiyara. Speaking on the occasion, she called upon the public to use only cloth bags and quit usage of plastic bags. “Plastic is harmful to the environment. Cows and other animals lose their lives by consuming plastic wastes. Though awareness is created regarding this, use of plastic is not decreasing,” she said.
She advised the youths to create awareness among the public so that it will have more impact. On the occasion, public, representatives and officials took an oath on quitting use of plastics.
Speaking to the media on Dasara, Pramodha Devi Wadiyar said that this year’s Dasara will begin on October 10 and all preparations are being made.
Responding to a question on Yaduveer becoming the ambassador of the tourism department, she said that she has no information on this as Yaduveer has not discussed it with her.
MCC commissioner K H Jagadish, officials and pourakarmikas were present. (MR/KS).
